Cacti flowers

I am fascinated by cacti flowers. Their life span is always short but their bloom is spectacular. These are from a new group of cacti I bought last week.

I'm always amazed at the size of the flower compared to the size of the cactus. I have several variety of cacti that have yet to bloom for me, one has been in the ground for five years and the other for one year. I guess gardening is about patience as well as back breaking labor.

  3. AZ, here's a bit of info. All fertilizers are a balance of NPK, Nitrogen(N), Phosphorus(P) and Potassium(K). N for growth, P for blooming and K for disease resistance. My favorite source of P is cow manure, dissolved in water of course. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip, I used to use compost tea to fertilize my annuals and they flowered beautifully, but I figured cacti grows in the wild without any fertilizer and so I rarely do anything special for them except water and twice a year an all purpose fetilizer like Miracle Gro. I'll check for a fetilizer high in Phosphorus next time I'm out.
