Xanthorrea flower
The Xanthorrea puts out a staff flower from it's centre. The flower spike then blooms to reveal the multitude of tiny stamens which will be pollinated by bees and insects. (double click pic for close-up view)
I'm going to Google "Xanthorrea" it looks like yuccas that grow in Arizona, but yuccas bloom with many small flower spikes. Our agave bloom with a single stalk, but they die after they bloom.
Does the plant die once it booms?
ReplyDeleteHi AZ. The Xanthorrea lives for hundreds of years and I have posted a pic of a beautiful specimen from the Melbourne Botanical Gardens.
