I was amazed the first time you posted pictures of these flowers, I'm still amazed! They look like the Bird of Paradise flowers that grow in Arizona, only colored differently and your blooms are HUGE.
Yes, they are a distant relation to the Bird of Paradise plant. I think I'll photograph flowers of the two side by side so you can see the size difference.
32 inches wide from end to end (80cm). The double flower of the Strezlitzia is full of nectar that birds love to drink.
